Adventure Point
Adventure Point partners with schools and youth programs to provide leadership development. Currently Adventure Point offers year long and one day programs to meet local needs. Two of the school cohorts currently in the yearlong Summit Leadership Program are University Prep and Kenowa Hills. One full day a month the participants spend the day developing and understating core leadership principals and concepts.
Better Wiser Stronger (BWS)
The Mission of Better, Wiser, Stronger, inc. is to build young men’s confidence to be better, make wiser decisions, and become stronger people for successful life outcomes. BWS offers three different program levels based off age. Confidence Reading is an elementary level program that focuses on strengthening reading efficiencies so that they meet state requirements for education. The Teach Me to Tie program engages middles school age youth, focusing on identification to combat the social pressures that increase during this age range for young men. The Boys to Men program is designed for high school young men to identify and focus on career goals.
Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids
The Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids provides growth opportunities for youth to reach their potential. The programs and clubs offered focus on important aspects of youth development including health and life skills. With four facilities around Grand Rapids participants always have a safe place to learn and grow.
Meaning in Colors
Meaning In Colors program was built to lead and ensure young adults reach their full potential by breaking down barriers and providing resources for empowerment, education, and becoming self-sufficient. As an organization they have three focus area of support, Empowerment, Education, and Self-Sufficiency. The youth who engage work with mentors to build social skills, self-confidence, and the setting and achievement of goals.
Mirror Me Inc.
Mirror Me produces characteristics of virtue, integrity and leadership in girls ages 11-18. Working to reveal identity through exemplifying the characteristics and nature of God. Mirror Me was founded on the principles outlined Titus 2: 3-5. The older women are teaching the younger to: “live wisely, be pure, and to do good” with a goal to educate and empower.
ScoutReach
ScoutReach is the Boy Scouts of America’s emphasis on ensuring that low income and at-risk youth can engage in the BSA’s programs. By working in, and with schools, challenges such as affordability, transportation, and safe meeting spaces are no longer barriers to child’s opportunity to becoming a scout. During their experience they will have opportunity to develop leadership skills and character while finding a sense of accomplishment that comes from advancing ranks.
Stem Greenhouse
There is a 30% disparity between White students and Black or African American students in Kent County with over 94% rated as “Partially or Not Proficient”. Stem Greenhouse’s focus is to grow proficiency in vulnerable children and to cultivate education and career success. Stem Greenhouse offers five different programs at various ages to create opportunities for increased success and a youth’s sense of empowerment.
YMCA of Grand Rapids
The YMCA used the contributions from Fulfilling the Dream to provide students the opportunity to participate in the Summer Teen Leadership Academy. Participants were exposed to a variety of speakers that spanned post-secondary options such as: doctors, union iron workers, real estate agents, bankers, fire fighters, military personnel, and educators. Furthering the ability to plan for their future, the students visited eight colleges, researched career paths, and receive lessons in financial literacy.
